Note to self: just wondering

I wonder if I’m the only one who didn’t know the cows, pigs and donkeys wandering the streets of India don’t belong to anyone. I assumed that after wandering around town all day they went home at night.

So, I asked my driver, “Who do these animals belong to?”
“No one”, he replies.
“Really, they are strays?”
“Yes.”
“So if I lived here and I decided I wanted to take that nice cow home that would be fine?”

He laughs. “If the cow wanted to go with you, that would be fine…”

Just don’t eat the cow. Sacred and all that.

    hi:

Witold sent me the link to your blog. We are both here! How are you getting video on your blog? Mine keeps failing every time I do it. Not sure if it’s my connection or something else.

    • hi Jen, I upload it to youtube. then I click share and copy the ’embed’ code. I go back to wordpress and paste the embed code into the blog 🙂 Are you in India? If so I would like to say hi to you both in person 🙂
      Om shanti,
      Roberta

Vodpod is a surefire way to get video onto WordPress. There are also documented shortcuts [video=url] for embedding video on the WordPress blog.

The anthropologist Marvin Harris gives a materialist (some would say Marxist) view of why cows are allowed to roam freely. (Hint: it’s about the dung.)
